   Beyond Iran/Contra Part 4 World War WACL

   In my last article in this series I traced the multiple origins of The World Anti-Communist League or WACL from British master spy Sidney Reilly's Anti-Bolshevik League, The largely unknown promethean league, and finally Hitlers Anti-Comintern Pact which absorbed both it's predecessors. I should also have mentioned Hitler's Committee of Subjugated Nations which was the precursor to the ABN branch of WACL. All were absorbed by western intelligence agencies recruited as allies to wage Covert and psychological warfare on the Soviet Union.  In Asia the US installed rightwing dictatorships in Taiwan, South Korea, South Vietnam, and other countries who joined together to form the Asian People's Anti-Communist League or APACL in 1954 (under the Guidance of notorious CIA officer Ray Cline who would go on to play a key role in GLADIO)  which would become another major power in WACL and which was closely allied to the eastern european fascist elements of the future WACL. That same year of 1954 in the wake of the coup that overthrew Arbenz in Guatemala the Latin American branch of WACL was formed. At it's founding were three of the most notorious members of the Secret Team E. Howard Hunt,  Lucien Conein, & Mitch WerBell III, It would take a book on each of these shadowy figures to do them justice. Hunt was most famous for his role in Nixon's plumbers, Conein a CIA agent with close ties to the corsican Mafia would play a pivotal role in the history of the international drug trade, WerBell (A "White" Russian) trained mercenaries and death squads and dealt weapons. All three were veterans on the infamous OSS operations in Kunming China which would evolve into 70 years of CIA control of the international drug trade as I discussed in "Iran/Contra Part 1 The Secret Team" All 3 also had close ties to international fascism. Latin America would prove to be one of WACL's main battlegrounds and the Latin American Branch would carry out decades of genocidal dirty war on the people of Central and South America. In Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, those carrying out the dirty wars were all active WACL members and WACL conferences became centers from which they could mobilize for whatever horrors they planned to bring next upon their people. Behind it all pulling the strings were of course the CIA.


   WACL became a center for fascism, terrorism, drug dealing, death squads, racism, war, genocide and assassination. It's members included gangsters, cultists, war criminals, politicians, bankers, bank robbers, scholars, media people. It had branches all over the world in over 70 countries. Plus it was aligned with hundreds of other groups and fronts. It was involved in the Vietnam War, the Bay of pigs and the covert war on Cuba, Operation Condor, the assassinations of John Kennedy, Olof Palme and Ben Barka. It backed the wars in Angola, and Afghanistan, it fueled the rise of Nixon, Reagan, and Bush I. Most importantly it was deeply involved in the destabilization and destruction of the Soviet Union and the Wars in Yugoslavia and Ukraine that followed. The War on Drugs, The War on Terror, Cold War 2.0, the Long War  all different names for what I dub World War 4 and WACL can clearly be seen involved in all of them. It helped create Al Qaeda, it flooded the world with drugs, It kept Ukrainian Fascism alive for decades so that it could be re-installed in Ukraine provoking cold war 2.0. And yet despite the massive role it has played in shaping the events of the past 60 years it remains largely unknown. Most of America's most unsavory allies all gathered together in one place a topic which is apparently too scandalous for most historians to bother to discuss. The Study of WACL forces the abandonment of myths about the "cold war" having anything to do with "preserving democracy" instead it had to do with preserving fascism as a useful weapon in the US quest for global domination.


   Unfortunately I'll only be able to scratch the surface of WACL's long and sordid history in this article. To write the history of WACL would involve writing a history of the wars stretching from World War 1 to world war 4. As we saw last time even the origins of WACL with it's many and complex precursors could probably fill a library since it would be a history of fascism, counter-revolution and world wars stretching across the world. The task of chronicling it's exploits through the past 70 years and World Wars 3 and 4 would be even more complex. Thankfully however WACL's activities often intersect with my prior research and so while I have rarely mentioned WACL itself I have written about it's effects or it's component parts. Thus WACL is not only a continuation into my Iran/Contra research it is also a continuation of my research on the CIA and fascism (America the CIA, and Fascism, Nazis and the CIA, Operation Gladio) as well as the trilogy I wrote on Korea and Vietnam, the series on Angola, and my article on Operation Condor. WACL backed those wars and CIA operations. For example many of the most infamous GLADIO terrorists like Stefano Delle Chiaie, or Yves Guerin-Serac were WACL members. Those who carried out the bloody crimes of operation condor like Jose Lopez Rega or Pastor Coronel were WACL members. Diem America's right wing puppet in Vietnam was a APACL founder. Reinhardt Gehlen the infamous Nazi spy chief recruited by the CIA and founder of West Germany's postwar intelligence agency the BND was a major WACL backer. And of course WACL was behind the scenes causing the war in Ukraine which I've written so much about. WACL was used to tie everything together to coordinate the actions of fascists, terrorists and death squads as they waged war on behalf of the CIA across the planet. So while I'll only be able to deal with a few highlights of the history of WACL I have dealt elsewhere with some of the wars, assassination programs, and terrorism that WACL was involved in.


   First there is the massive WACL connections to the death of JFK first discovered by legendary researcher Mae Brussell and also explored at length by Dave Emory one of the few to give WACL the attention it deserved. Peter Dale Scott has also written on the topic. There was the strange coincidence that Stephan Bandera was killed on October 15 1959 the same day that Lee Harvey Oswald pretended to defect to the USSR. Kennedy angered the ABN branch of WACL by publicly disavowing the notion that the US planned to dismember the Soviet Union. When Oswald returned to the US he was greeted by an ABN member and all his friends were white Russian Fascists like George de Morenschildt. WACL connected groups helped set up the cover story that Oswald was a communist. Plus they played a major role in framing him for the assassination Those are only a couple of examples I'll put some links to Mae Brussell and Dave Emory's work on the topic in the sources. Not only were european fascists involved in the kennedy assassination but also of course the CIA's army of drug dealing cuban exiles were also involved of course. They too were closely tied to WACL as we shall see. In fact the bay of pigs was in many ways a WACL operation tied both to Somoza in Nicaragua, and to Taiwan among others. Through WACL they would merge into a "China"(Taiwan)/Guatemala/Somoza/Cuba lobby as Peter Dale Scott points out.


   Another assassination accompanied the final official coalescing of the various WACL branches into WACL itself in 1967. This was the murder of Morrocan revolutionary Ben Barka in France. Barka had been working on Fidel Castro's behalf to organize the Tri-Continental Congress. The Tri-Continental sought to the third world Latin America, Asia, and Africa in opposition to imperialism. The official creation of WACL was as Henrik Kruger points out meant to counter the Tri-Continental just as Hitler's Anti-Comintern Pact had been formed to counter the Comintern (short for communists international) the Third International which sought to unite all the revolutionary communist parties in the world. WACL sought not only to stop the third world from becoming independent or socialist it sought to "Rollback" communist or independent nationalist countries everywhere in the world. Hence Ben Barka an ally of de Gaulle was kidnapped and murdered by treacherous SDECE agents  (French foreign intelligence) in defiance of de Gaulle's wishes but in accord with their allies in the CIA who were desperate to sabotage the Tri-Continetal Congress. Also involved was Mohammed Oufkir the Moroccan Minister of the Interior who had his own reasons for wanting Barka dead another agent of the CIA. The American Ambassador to Morroco at the time Henry J. Tasca would go on to support the Colonels coup in Greece. In France it became a major scandal and an enduring mystery and de Gaulle fired the SDECE head and purged the agency in revenge. De Gaulle himself nearly ended up a victim of the CIA aligned fascist french OAS in a number of assassination attempts and had also narrowly  an OAS coup. Henrik Kruger discusses the death of Ben Barka in his newly republished cult classic "The Great Heroin Coup" which I'm currently reading and highly recommend for it's fascinating discussion of the phony war on drugs and it's material on WACL and the secret team. It was at the Tri-Contintental that Che would give his famous speech calling for 1,2,3 many Vietnam's to bring the empire to it's knees. Today the legacy of the Tri-Contintental lives on thanks to Sukant Chandan check out the youtube channel of that name to find a bunch of great conferences of Anti-Imperialist activists on a variety of topics. The other most famous WACL connected assassinations were the death of Pope John Paul I who was planning to reform the vatican bank which would have exposed the P-2, Mafia, GLADIO, and other WACL connected groups. John Paul II was shot but survived another WACL connected event as the Grey Wolves of which the shooter Mehmet Ali Agca was a member had long been connected to WACL. Ironic given that the pope was also an ally of WACL playing a role both in the rollback of communism and even their war on liberation theology.


   Just as the foundation of the Latin and Asian WACL branches were the same year as the coup in Guatemala so too the 1967 WACL conference was the same year as the fascist Colonels coup in Greece which of course WACL was deeply involved in. Fascists from across Europe went to Greece to take part in the dirty war on Greece's people and many future GLADIO terrorists would gain experience in the tide of torture and murder that followed the coup. It was a case of history repeating itself and many CIA counter-insurgency experts and european fascists had also participated in the dirty war in Greece in support of fascism during the 40's. Just one of many coups both successful and failed that WACL would be involved in.


   Having introduced the Central and Eastern, European, The Asian, and Latin American WACL branches the story of Roger Pearson will serve to introduce both the North American and Western European Branches. The Year was 1976 George H. W. Bush was CIA director and it is amazing how much mayhem went on during his brief reign. The fascist military coup in Argentina was the same year for example. Someone should write a book just on this one year as I constantly come across new crimes that took place during Bush's brief tenure as head of the CIA. CORU the Cuban Terrorist group was formed in June 76 (The same month as the Argentina Coup) after it's predecessors had assassinated most of Orlando Bosch's opponents in the Cuban Exile community. They launched a wave of terror bombings across the world all in quick succession. In Miami alone there were over 700 bombings in 1976; it's amazing what get's left out of the history books. CORU also carried out major attacks in Jamaica, Barbados, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Panama, and Spain. The most infamous was the blowing up of a cuban airliner in Barbados which killed 73 people. The most famous was in Washington, DC itself with the car bomb that killed Orlando Letelier and Ronni Moffit. The cubans were acting on behalf of Chile's DINA and the victims were part of the list of tens of thousands killed by Operation Condor. The cubans would also play a major role in Operation condor joining death squads in Guatemala, Argentina, and Brazil.

   But as if all the Mayhem carried out by the Cuban WACL members based in Miami wasn't enough Bush who's family ties to Nazi's and other Fascists went back to before WW 2 and who personally was in charge of organizing the fascist supporters of the GOP through the "Ethnic Outreach" program (Nixon had also been a major backer of this program) Bush 1 decided to appoint an outright fascist Roger Pearson to head the american branch of WACL. Pearson then attempted to force the more "mainstream" elements out of the western european WACL branches and replace them with outright Fascists many who were Waffen SS veterans others part of Europe's Neo-Fascist Euro-Right scheme. He would fail to force the conservatives out but he did manage to get all the neo-fascist's and SS men in. Most of the names will probably be unknown to you  but I'll include a few in case you want to conduct some further research. There was Swedish Fascist Per Engdahl, Belgian St. C. de Berkelaar, Norwegian Tor Hadland, German Heinrich Hartle, Austrian Wilhelm Landig and Italian Giorgio Almirante. Pearson would by 1978 become the worldwide head of WACL especially beloved by the Central American death Squads who drew inspiration from Mexico's Nazi Tecos and Of course even more so by the fascists of the ABN who were mostly former SS men themselves. Of course the most notorious german member had been a member long before Theodore Oberlander who had lead the Ukrainian Fascists on their murder spree and organized turkic battalions of chechens, crimean tatars, Azeri's and other disaffected groups into brutal death squads. They took part in smashing the Warsaw uprising among other crimes. In Postwar Germany Oberlander became minister for the strongly pro-fascist expellee movement.

  Pearson was a strange character he was British not american and became a fanatical racist while serving in the British army in India which is a surprisingly common detail in the lives of american fascists as  I've discovered listening to Anti-Fascist Researcher Dave Emory. Is it merely another example of the racism inspired by the settler colonial mindset or was India a hotbed for British Fascism? Pearson became a firm believer in eugenics and "scientific racism" he published a number of "scholarly" journals and lead a dual life both as a respectable "conservative" and an ardent racist. He was a member of the Heritage Foundation, the American Security Council, he founded the Council on American Affairs. Thus top politicians wrote for his journals and Reagan sent him a letter of praise long after he was replaced as head of WACL for being too overtly fascist (which was quite an accomplishment given the membership). As President Reagan put it in 1982 "your substantial contributions to promoting and  upholding those ideals and principles we value at home and abroad are greatly appreciated." Pearson made great use of this quote when soliciting donations. Reagan that old Fascist was doing his part as well at promoting american values by backing racist apartheid in South Africa and the genocide of Indians in Guatemala affirming his commitment to the racism and genocide upon which america was built.Needless to say WACL was deeply involved in both places as well.  Meanwhile at home his war on drugs was imprisoning ever more black men for selling tiny amounts of drugs while the contras were given total impunity to fly drugs in by the ton. To return to Pearson not only was he close to the republicans he was also a lifelong fascist who started the Northern League for Pan Nordic Friendship which united fascist SS veterans with white supremacists in the US, Canada, Great Britain and Australia. Pearson was also close to all the segregationist forces in the US along with the fascist Liberty Lobby who's journal he edited. He was also chairman of the council on American affairs, and was a member of the heritage foundation and the ASC. When he resigned as chairman of WACL in 1980 he gave the job to a southern segregationist. Of course it was under the control of the shadowy retired General John K. Singlaub the secret team member and one of the major players in the genocidal wars in Korea and then Vietnam that WACL would rise to it's greatest power.


   Through WACL Taiwan would play a fascinating role in Latin America's dirty war. In an early article "Israel Supported [Death Squads] in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala" I talked about the little discussed role Israeli advisers played in training latin American death squads. The Israeli role was actually even greater then I suspected also extending to Chile, Colombia (Where Mossad agent posing as a private mercenary Michael Harari trained and supplied the Medellin Cartel death squads for their reign of terror and assassinations as a favor to the CIA) and Mexico where they helped suppress the Zapatista's. However what is even less well known is the role of Taiwan in training latin american death squads. Taiwan became the center of what became known as "Political Warfare" Political Warfare included all the tactics of dirty war usually called psychological operations, counter insurgency etc. However it was also a method for fascists to infiltrate and control their countries armed forces. The Taiwanese model involved creating a fascist political party and having it take over the armed forces and police. Members were to be deeply indoctrinated in a fascist brand of fanatical anti-communism. Ironically all this was adapted from the system of political commissars used in the Soviet Red Army. Chiang Kai Shek's son Chiang Ching Kou had been sent by the KMT to the Soviet Union for his military education since they were then allies of the communists. However Chiang would later instead seek the backing of the west turning on the communists using Triad gangster death squads to smash the communists in Shang Hai in 1927. Political warfare was thus an attempt to adapt soviet methods into the service of his anti-communist counter-revolution. Just as the soviets used commissars to teach the troops the marxist ideology, political warfare would instead indoctrinate it's members in an Anti-Communist fascist Ideology.   As one Student was qouted in "Inside the League"

"We Were taught that to defeat communism we had to be cruel. We were told to watch our commander, that if he showed weakness or indecision in combat, we were to kill him. They also had us watch our classmates who of course were watching us."

Incidentally all Taiwanese foreign exchange students were kept under constant surveillance for any signs of subversive thought let alone any political activity to expose the situation in their country.

   In Cooperation between Chiang Ching Kou Ray Cline of the CIA the Political warfare Cadres academy was  built in Peitou just outside the capital of Taiwan . There many of the Condor Network were trained. Peitou was also where the Guatemalan and El Salvadoran death squads were trained. Guatemala became a highly successful example of the Taiwan model. Mario Sandoval Alarcon created the MLN on the Taiwanese model and used it along with help from the CIA of course to create a parallel state in Guatemala that would carry out the usual death squad horrors. Taiwan's political warfare had also been used as a model for the phoenix program in Vietnam. Guatemala and Vietnam had a great deal in common corrupt and brutal military dictatorships that were constant prey to new right wing coups. In 1968-1971 Guatemala experienced a mini Vietnam as veterans of the CIA phoenix program arrived to put an end to the small simmering revolution in the countryside that had begun when a left wing coup by junior officers was put down in 1960 with CIA assistance. The surviving junior officers had linked up with the peasants who lived in dire poverty and were desperate for reforms. Sandoval one of the CIA's proteges in Guatemala put the lessons he learned in Taiwan to use massacring the peasants. His Protege in El Salvador Roberto D'Aubuisson also trained in Taiwan and was a fan of the Taiwan model. He started the parties PCN and it's successor ARENA based on the model of the KMT. The infamous argentine death squad Triple A would also train at the political warfare academy at Pleitou as would the Brazilians AAB. Both death squads WACL connections were obvious in their names Which roughly translate to Argentine Anti-Communist Alliance and Brazil Anti-Communist alliance. Taiwan's role in Latin America during World War 3 is yet another example pf both how much more interconnected these wars were and the role WACL played in uniting fascists of different countries in their war on their own population. In fact the official formation of Operation Condor was first publicly proposed at the 1975 WACL conference held in Brazil. Of Course yet again behind WACL and behind Taiwan we find yet again the hand of the CIA.


    The 1976 coup in Argentina that overthrew the government of Isabel Peron was another example of the dangerous influence of WACL. Actually both sides competing for power in Argentina had deep WACL connections. On the peronists side there was the shadowy figure of Jose Lopez Rega known as El Brujo (The sorcerer) for his control of the Perons he co-founded the murderous Triple A or AAA death squads, he was a P-2 member connected to the even more shadowy and infamous Licio Gelli and was even connected to "Hitler's Favorite Commando" Otto Skorzeny. Lopez Rega brought GLADIO style tactics into Argentine politics confusing things so much that historians have difficulty distinguishing between real and false flag terror attacks during the era. To further complicate matters Lopez Rega was at war with both left wing peronists and the neoliberal fascists who would launch the 1976 coup driving the peronists from power and targeting them for assassination. For example when Peron returned home he had AAA machine gun Peron's left wing supporters that had shown up to welcome him back.

The Neo-Liberal fascist coup which installed General Jorge Videla and his successors strongly reminded me of the coup that took place in Ukraine since they basically were selling Argentina off to the highest bidder and foreign multi-nationals rushed in to loot the country sending the economy into free fall. The IMF rewarded their insanity by giving them a 300 million dollar loan the largest credit they had ever granted a latin American country. But as terrible as the economic consequences of the coup they paled in comparison to the murderous rampage the junta undertook torturing and killing 30,000 people in attempt to cut out the "sickness" of "subversion" from Argentina. Their main goal was to break the powerful Argentinian unions but they targeted anyone especially students who showed the slightest signs of resistance. As one Officer told his subordinates "If We exterminate them all, there will be fear for several generations...All... About twenty thousand people. And their relatives too-they must be eradicated- and those who remember their names...not a trace or a witness will remain." (qouted from "Incomplete Transition: Military Power and Democracy in Argentina by J. Patrice McSherry) The crimes of the Junta aroused a major outcry and WACL became one of Argentina's principle defenders. In Fact Argentina had become by 1980 along with Guatemala and Taiwan one of the 3 key WACL members who used the organization to lobby on their own behalf. Argentina lead CAL the latin american WACL branch.  All 3 countries employed Reagan's campaign manager Michael Deaver as their Lobbyist.  Illegal donations from these 3 WACL countries helped Reagan win the election forcing out Jimmy Carter. WACL of course hated Jimmy Carter for his ineffectual efforts to rein in Fascist countries like Guatemala and Argentina who waged US backed dirty wars on their own people as I discussed in Iran/Contra part 1. Argentina would play a role similar to that of Israel, Taiwan, and of course the US in sending advisers to train latin American death squads in the Condor Network countries and also in central america where they trained the death squads of El Salvador, and Guatemala to be even more brutal and sadistic in their dirty wars. They were also used as the primary trainers of the Contras in Nicaragua acting as proxies for the US. The "Argentine solution" as WACL dubbed it was thus exported all over latin America.


    The Bolivian Cocaine coup of 1980 was perhaps the ultimate example of a WACL backed coup. The Argentines, and Chileans, were involved of course along with the other Operation Condor Countries. So were the moonies whose political wing CAUSA was central to organizing and funding the coup. Infamous Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie was also a major player in the coup. So was infamous GLADIO terrorist Stefano Delle Chiaie leader of the Italian Fascist Avanguardia Nazionale another of the most fascinating WACL members. Delle Chiaie was involved in the infamous Piazza Fontana bombing in Milan(16 dead 80 injured) , A failed Italian coup, and the Bologna bombing that killed 85 and injured 200 in Italy. He helped set up death squads in Spain, and Portugal. He was a member of Aginter Press a fascist terror group. He trained latin american death squads for the Condor network and in Central America and was a close friend of Turkish Grey wolf/Gangster Abdullah Catli the two were spotted in Miami on their way to meet the Cuban terrorists.


   The Cocaine coup in Bolivia installed Luis Garcia Meza as president and he installed cocaine  kingpin Roberto Suarez's cousin Col Luis Arce Gomez as interior minister assuring immunity for the drug cartels. Klaus Barbie had been busy in Bolivia training death squads for the Bolivian Drug lords, and inducting them into his nazi secret society "The Fiancees of Death". During the coup they seized the radio station and broadcast Nazi propaganda then Barbie's nazi followers were allowed to go on a murderous rampage. Another death squad was dubbed the phoenix commando which may have had something to do with the fact that many nazis and fascists had fought in Vietnam under both the french (many joined the foreign legion) and the Americans. In fact half the green berets were recruited from veterans of fascist death squads. Many air america pilots were also recruited from the fascist exiles. Bolivia in 1980 became strongly reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 30's and 40's. All the gangsters were released from prison and allowed to go on a rampage. The explosion in cocaine coming out of Bolivia is what lead to the massive expansion of the cocaine cartels in Colombia who also formed fascist death squads.

   John Singlaub the Secret veteran of the genocidal wars in Korea and Vietnam had been fired by Carter in 1978 for criticizing plans to reduce US forces in Korea where Singlaub headed the UN forces. This elevated him into a second MacArthur the fascist Korean War general who was fired by Truman for wanting to start a nuclear war. Given his long ties to the CIA and the US's right wing allies in Korea and South Vietnam Singlaub's connections to WACL probably went back much further but it was in this period where he began to play an increasingly public role in WACL. He was sent by the WACL allied ASC to Guatemala with former DIA head General Daniel O. Graham to drum up illegal campaign contributions for Reagan and to plot the intensification of Central America's dirty wars. Next he founded a new US WACL branch the US council for  World Freedom to replace Pearson's disgraced Branch. Then Singlaub became the World Chairman of WACL recruiting a bunch of other high ranking dirty war vets into WACL. WACL was to become the coordinating center for Low Intensity conflict and World War 3 a term WACL like me used to refer to "the cold war." Luckily I have already written about the many dirty wars of the 1980's in Iran/Contra Part 2 World War 3 (although I forgot to mention the Ethiopia Somalia war that lead to Somalia becoming a failed state in which Cuba and the USSR backed then socialist Ethiopia against former Soviet Ally turned western Proxy Somalia.) WACL was involved in all these wars.

  WACL raised money for the contra's in Nicaragua and the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan. It raised money for UNITA in Angola, and Renamo in Mozambique. It supported the genocidal wars in El Salvador and Guatemala on their own people. Of course in both those countries WACL members actually carried out the war themselves and in many other places. WACL backed the covert wars in Cambodia, and Vietnam. WACL was tied to Soldier of Fortune Magazine which was used both to recruit mercenaries and indoctrinate the american public in the WACL world view. John Singlaub wrote frequent columns for the magazine which was in many ways a precursor to todays VICE magazine. The Magazines founder Robert K. Brown was practically a member of the Secret team himself and held fundraisers on behalf of the Contras and the Afghan "Freedom Fighters" that would morph into the Taliban and Al Qaeda.


   Soldier of Fortune was merely the most outrageous of WACL's  american allies. There were a number of American organizations with interlocking membership with WACL. There was Singlaub's Refugee's Relief International a cover for supplying the dirty war since by refugees they meant CIA exile armies like the cubans or the contras. There was Western Goals founded as a privatized method of keeping track of American Subversives funded by the infamous Nelson Bunker Hunt and staffed by ex FBI men. There was The Council For the Defense of Freedom which launched propaganda campaigns about six world war 3 battlegrounds Afghanistan,  Angola, Cambodia, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Vietnam. There was the American Security Council (ASC) often described as the American WACL branch that lobbied on behalf of the war profiteers. ASC had a spinoff the committee on peace through strength which Singlaub with former DIA chief Gen. Daniel Graham also ran and which like WACL brought together western politicians and military men with their fascist allies like the Bulgarian National Front. WACL was also closely allied to the powerful conservative caucus which brought in both the republican party and the Fundamentalist Christians. Thus televangelists like Pat Robertson would act as WACL propagandists especially on behalf of Guatemala's Born Again Christian Dictator Rios Montt who loved to give bizarre sermons as he waged his genocidal war on the Mayan Indians and even attempted to force Guatemala's largely catholic populace to convert to evangelical style protestantism. American Born again preachers would even fly down to help hunt down subversives and supervise torture under the cover of charity. By the Reagan Era WACL despite it's scandalous history had become a part of mainstream american society. Another powerful friend of WACL my older readers will remember was Senator Jesse Helms whose "aides" (from their behavior it's clear they were actually intelligence agents of some kind) flew all over the world to various WACL countries plotting coups and dirty wars.

   Of course as I dealt with in part one WACL's greatest role would be in the destruction of the Soviet Union. An important victory for their strategy of "Rollback." WACL was not the only element but it clearly played an important role. Unfortunately I'll have to deal with this topic in the future it is obviously too big to go into here. However there are a few clues to WACL's role I can add here. During the Reagan era the ABN regained control over Radio Liberty and were already in the 1980's beaming their revisionist view of Ukrainian history heroizing the genocidal OUN/B. They would later gain increasing influence as they returned to Ukraine leading to the current fascist state of Ukraine. In Croatia the Ustashe terrorists also played a vital role in the destruction of Yugoslavia in fact Milo Baresic (the probable assassin of Olof Palme) would die fighting in the war to dismember Yugoslavia and was declared a national hero. He had been released from Swedish prison in 1987 the year after the Palme Assassination returning to Paraguay. The WACL connected free congress foundation would even be behind the rise of Boris Yeltsin. In an unrelated to WACL note I also recently discovered in an old Doug Valentine Interview that CIA director Bill Casey had recruited a bunch of KGB agents which he used to destroy the Soviet Union from within. I turned up other clues on the destruction of the USSR from my reading of Peter Dale Scott and Fletcher Prouty during my Iran Contra research with Prouty points to the importance of "the USA-USSR trade and economic council" in the subversion and destruction of the USSR. Peter Dale Scott offers a cryptic hint about how "detente" was a cover for the destabilization of the USSR. Bringing us back to WACL anti-fascist Researcher offers many hints to the role of WACL in the destruction of the soviet union and the Warsaw pact. Clearly however what was then labeled the mysterious rise of "ultra-nationalism" was in reality the behind the scenes influence of WACL and the CIA spreading their fascist propaganda. Without WACL Ukrainian and Croatian Fascists could never have accumulated the necessary power to seize control of their countries sparking the wars in Yugoslavia and Ukraine. WACL was also used to funnel money to the terrorists in Afghanistan leading to the creation of Al Qaeda and the Taliban.


   Thus we are still living with the legacy of both the Iran Contra Scandal and WACL. The Current Wars in Libya, Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Somalia were direct products of WACL and have their roots in the Iran Contra Scandal. WACL was linked to hundreds perhaps thousands of assassinations and terrorist attacks. Millions would die in WACL supported wars. Drugs, Terrorism, and Fascism would spread across the globe thanks to WACL. Now with fascism on the rise throughout the world it is important that we understand it's true origins and above all it's true sponsors. We must oppose this new rise of fascism remembering the millions who have already died as victims in this insane anti-communist crusade part of the unending war on the third world merely a cover for the evils of Capitalism, Racism, Imperialism, and Fascism as even a brief study of the history of the World Anti-Communist League makes clear. In Europe, in Latin America, in the Middle East, in Africa Fascism is on the march. The people of the world must unite and fight back because our enemies did so long ago.

   Beyond Iran Contra part 3: The Origins of the World Anti-Communist League

   On February 28 1986 Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was gunned down in the streets while returning home with his wife after a movie. His killers were never brought to justice. Palme was a victim of the World Anti-Communist League or WACL. Palme had defied the American Empire one too many times. First he angered the empire by opposing the war in Vietnam enraging the Nixon administration by marching in solidarity with the North Vietnamese ambassador and in opposition to the genocidal war being waged on the people of Vietnam in the name of stopping the spread of communism. He further angered the empire by his friendly ties to Castro's Cuba and Allende's Chile (later overthrown by fascists.) But it was his interference in the Iran Contra schemes that finally got him killed. Palme maintained friendly ties with the Sandinista's in Nicaragua providing vital assistance in holding their elections. He had also blocked an deal to Iran from the Bofors arms firm being delivered via another of Secret team member Richard Secord's  CIA front companies. In response Olof Palme was gunned down by WACL and because of WACL's ties to Swedish intelligence the killers were never brought to justice.


  However thanks to the work of investigative journalist Henrik Kruger we know the killer was probably Miro Baresic aka Tony Saric a Croatian Fascist who had been convicted of torturing the Yugoslavian ambassador to Sweden to death. After being convicted of that crime "escaping" and then being recaptured Baresic was freed along with other Ustashe Terrorists like Jozo Damjanovic  when the Ustashe Hijacked a Swedish airliner and threatened to blow it up with all 86 passengers if Sweden refused to release them. He was flown to Fascist Spain which was also the base for the Nazi underground lead by Otto Skorzeny "Hitler's favorite commando" turned mercenary and arms merchant. Baresic was imprisoned briefly for appearances sake but Spain refused to send him back to Sweden instead sending him to Paraguay another Fascist safe haven    Baresic had then found employment like many former Ustashe (the Croatian fascist party) with the regime of genocidal Paraguayan Dictator Alfredo Stroessner who offered refuge and employment to many fascist war criminals and had a private bodyguard of Ustashe killers. Jozo Damjanovich would "accidentally" assassinate the Uruguayan ambassador to Paraguay supposedly mistaking him for the Yugoslavian ambassador.  Baresic became the right hand man of Condor operative and CIA man Pastor Coronel like all Condor leaders a sadistic torturer and murderer.  The US turned a blind eye when Baresic began working for the Paraguayan embassy in Washington, DC. However they were forced to deport him when two FBI agents not in on the secret of America's alliance with Fascists and terrorists became suspicious of Baresic after he won a Karate tournament (Actually many martial arts schools are sponsored by WACL) and raced around the auditorium with a Croatian flag. They decided to find out who he was and were shocked to discover he was an internationally wanted terrorist and assassin. Embarrassed the US government sent him back to Sweden to stand trial. However instead of receiving harsh punishment he was treated like a celebrity, given a suitcase full of cash and frequently allowed to leave the prison including on the day of the Palme assassination. Thus the assassination of Olof Palme revealed the existence of an international fascist conspiracy. WACL provided the links between Croatian fascists, Swedish Fascists, Paraguayan Fascists.


  Yet this is only the tip of the Iceberg when it comes to WACL. WACL is undoubtedly one of the most important organizations that most people have never heard of. WACL played a far greater role in history then anyone (with the exception of researcher Dave Emory) ever realized. It was closely connected to the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the death of JFK, the string of coups that swept Latin America for decades and has after a brief interruption begun to sweep latin america again. It was involved in the wars in Angola and Mozambique. WACL members founded and lead the Latin American death squads that claimed hundreds of thousands of victims. WACL was instrumental in both the start of the "cold war" and it's end with the destruction of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. WACL helped get Nixon, Reagan and Bush into office. WACL was tied to terror attacks, Hijackings, bombings and assassinations. It was deeply involved in the global drug trade. It served to keep Fascism alive after it's defeat in world war 2. After the destruction of the USSR it was vital in spreading fascism throughout eastern Europe from the Baltic to Yugoslavia although until Ukraine few noticed and sadly even after Ukraine people still aren't paying attention. Under the umbrella of WACL were many of the most infamous CIA operations like Operation Paperclip and related ops aimed at recruiting Nazis and other Fascists, The Phoenix Program, Operation Condor, Operation Gladio. The Escaped Nazis and Fascists as well as some of the key players in the Phoenix Program, GLADIO, and Condor were often also WACL members. In other words WACL was the perfect CIA  front group uniting "all the evils of the world" as I called it after witnessing the coup in Ukraine. Like the Ukraine coup WACL united "respectable" western politicians with outright fascists. Ronald Reagan who was both a "respectable" politician (Ie a bloodthirsty imperialist) and a crypto-fascist said of WACL "Your Dream is Our Dream, Your Hope is our Hope." Then he shook the hand of Ukrainian Fascist War Criminal and WACL member Yaroslav Stetsko. With the destruction of the USSR their dream was fulfilled but under a new name (The Hilariously Orwellian World League for Freedom and Democracy) WACL continued it's same role a nightmare for everyone else reinstalling fascist regimes in places like Croatia and Ukraine. If today we are faced with a second cold war it is largely thanks to the continuing legacy of WACL.

  To use Ukraine as an example of the decades long impact of WACL one needs only study the Dobriansky family. Lev Dobrainsky was chairman of the ABN the (Anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Nations) an important umbrella group within WACL uniting all the groups who had fought for the Nazis and dreamed of carving up the USSR so they could regain control of the territories they had controlled or hoped to control during world war 2. Reagan appointed Lev Dobriansky ambassador to the Bahamas doubtless for the purpose of money laundering, drug trafficking, (Why else send a Ukrainian Fascist to the Bahamas during the Iran contra era?) and possibly even involvement with the WACL linked death squad school Mitch Werbell had founded there. His Daughter Paula Dobriansky became a top Reagan foreign policy adviser. Now Andrij Dobrianksy who I assume is Lev's Grandson (I found him by accident on twitter) is running a propaganda campaign on behalf of the fascist Ukraine junta and against the Russians. Another famous Ukrainian Fascist and top WACL member was Yaroslav Stetsko he was given a top leadership role despite his well documented role in carrying out genocidal war crimes against jews, Russians, poles, gypsies, and of course Ukrainians. Only one of many war criminals in WACL's ranks although the Ukrainians were one of the most powerful and influential groups in WACL dominating the ABN.

   Ukrainian fascists were only one of many sinister elements involved with WACL although they held a particularly prominent role. WACL united Latin American Death Squads, Croatian and Cuban Terrorists, Japanese Gangsters, the Moonies bizarre and dictatorial sex cult, Scientific racists, Waffen SS veterans. high ranking Nazis, Saudi Princes, supporters of apartheid in South  Africa and Rhodesia, supporters of America's Jim Crow apartheid (well into the 19880's) , Corsican Gangsters, KMT drug dealers, Right wing Asian, Latin American, European and Middle Eastern and African Dictators, Italian and Mexican Secret Societies, Bishops, priests, ministers, generals, Special forces vets, military men, spies, secret police, mainstream western politicians, academics, and journalists. And of course many of the "Secret Team" like Ray Cline, Theodore Shackley, Howard Hunt, and Lucien Conein were deeply involved in the creation and manipulation of WACL. Given this scandalous membership it is amazing that so few have ever bothered to investigate WACL. It sounds like something out of a bad movie plot but it was all too real.


  WACL's origins stretch back to the Russian Revolution nearly 100 years ago. Sidney Reilly the infamous  British super-spy founded one of it's precursors, the Anti Bolshevik league funded by American fascist Henry Ford and other rich Fascists who would go on to back hitler. Reilly who was actually a Ukrainian Jew by birth who grew up near the now infamous city of Odessa. (Ironic given his alliance with the virulently racist white Russians who often massacred any jews they could find during Russia's civil war and long before) Reilly had risen to become Britain's top agent and after the Russian October revolution they sent him to attempt to overthrow the revolution. He hoped to make himself a dictator like his idol Napoleon. Reilly ultimately failed but he was involved in spurring on the "Social Revolutionaries" terror campaign who's victim's included Lenin and the German Ambassador Mirbach and Reilly was also  involved in a number of failed coup attempts. The revolutionary government eventually decided to have him arrested for his numerous crimes and plots but he narrowly managed to escape. He was sentenced to death in absentia. Outside he organized the "white Russian" emigres and their fascist supporters in a global anti-bolshevik league stretching across Europe and the Americas with branches as far away as Japan. These white Russians were the original gladio style stay behind network used as tools of the imperialist and fascist countries in their covert war on the Soviet Union.


   In fact WACL has many origins most restrict the study of the group to the cold war era. The early history of the league is the history of the birth of fascism itself. Another fascinating forerunner of the league was the Promethean League organized by the Polish Fascist Marshall Jozef Pilsudski government which united the many of the same elements that are currently among Russia's greatest enemies. Poland Ukraine and Turkey plus the entire turkic speaking population of Central Asia were to be organized through the Promethean League to wage war on the Soviet Union. After Nazi Germany conquered Poland it took over the promethean League as part of their eastern strategy or ostpolitik and eventually trained SS battalions of Ukrainians, Chechens, Crimean Tatars, and Azerbaijanis along with other soviet minorities. After the war the CIA would recruit this same network and for those paying attention their descendants are still being used to wage covert and open war on Russia.


   Finally there was the Anti-Comintern Pact created by the Nazis and involving far more countries then most people remember. We have been trained to think of the Axis as only Italy, Japan and Germany. However this limited view is merely the residual effect of cold war propaganda. In Reality much of Central and Eastern Europe became Fascist before or during World War 2. However as the victorious Red Army marched west and overthrew the Fascist regimes in it's path installing communist governments Britain and America began to pretend that these countries had been part of the "free world" instead of the fascist world so that they could convince their people that the Soviet Union was trying to conquer the world. A fact few besides Michael Parenti bother to point out. The same lies would be repeated around the world from fascist Taiwan and South Korea, to Guatemala, Indonesia, Chile, South Africa all no matter how repressive were part of the "free world." It is no coincidence that these countries were all top WACL members as well. Of course this practice of labeling fascist countries as part of the "free world" continues into our own time most recently in the Fascist coup in Ukraine portrayed in the shameless western media as a triumph for democracy and "western values."

    In any case to return to the anti-comintern pact it united the fascist countries of Europe and Asia places like Hungary and Romania. In Romania there were the fanatical Iron Guard who not only killed their victims in the goriest manner imaginable they got so carried away that they would would on one memorable occasion dance, pray, cry and kiss in celebration amidst the mangled pieces of their victim. Their most gruesome crime involved using a literal slaughterhouse to hang their jewish victims by meathooks slaughter some of them in mockery of kosher butchers and skin other of their victims alive.   During the cold war they took over the Romanian Orthodox church which made the SS men into bishops Nixon had war criminal turned Bishop Viorel Trifa  lead the opening prayers of the senate in 1955. The Anti-Comintern pact also served to unite the many fascist movements of the world who were mobilized to spread propaganda. When Germany invaded Yugoslavia it created an independent Croatia that committed some of the worst atrocities of the war. They Installed Ante Pavelic as the Croatian Fuhrer or Poglavnik as he was called in Croatian. The Croatians targeted jews, gypsies, and all non Croatians of course but their most numerous victims were the serbs. In the midst of world war 2 and with the blessing of the Vatican they waged a fascist crusade against the orthodox serbs their motto was to kill a third convert a third and to force the final third to flee. They loved to save bullets by using knives to slice up their victims. They collected eyes as proof of their bodycount. In fact their crimes were so shocking even the some of the Nazis became disgusted. However after the end of World War 2 the Croatians would be a vital component of the ratline smuggling fascist war criminals to safety in the west. The Croatians would become one of the most powerful groups in WACL during the cold war and after the destruction of the soviet union would seize Croatia breakaway from Yugoslavia and ethnically cleanse hundreds of thousands of Serbs with the help of NATO and the mercenary firm MPRI. There were also of course the Ukrainians like Stephen Bandera, and Mykola Lebed who ordered their followers to join the Waffen SS and vied with the Croatians in their gory savagery one of their specialties was the use of saws to dispatch their victims. Their were Latvians like Waffen SS death Squad leader Alfred Berzins. There were Belorussians, Hungarians, Romanians, Estonians, Lithuanians and many more fascists who formed Nazi death squads and then went on to form the membership of WACL's ABN branch the Anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Nations. There was a also an American Friends of the ABN group with branches in every major american city and a membership composed largely of escaped war criminals.

   The Anti-Comintern also was allied to many groups in the west. France England, the United States, Latin America (especially Argentina) all had fascist movements united under the Anti-Comintern Pact. This western Fascism is another element suppressed from the history books. In the United States alone there were over 750 fascist groups by 1939. American Fascism was also closely tied in with supporters of American Apartheid system called Jim Crow and with the violent suppression of unions. It also often took a religious guise whether protestant fundamentalist christians or right wing Catholic demagogues like father Caughlin.  It was backed by a large section the American Oligarchy people like Henry Ford (who inspired Hitler) or Irinay Dupont who had his own massive fascist paramilitary the Black Legion which killed labor organizers and targeted minorities it's most famous victim was Malcolm X's father. But of course the subject of American Fascism could fill a book on it's own. So before ending this tangent I'll only mention that one of these fascist groups the American Vigilance Committee of Harry Jung was a direct part of the Nazi Anti-Comintern pact and was the precursor to what was in many ways the most important American WACL branch the ASC (American Security Council) which inherited Jung's list of 1 millions suspected subversives (and jews) which was used to draw up the McCarthy era blacklists. ASC became the most influential lobby on behalf of the military industrial complex. Overt American fascism didn't end with the war or even with the triumph of the civil rights movement. During the Iran-Contra era 1980-1986 American Fascists Nazi's, KKK, and other racist paramilitaries committed over 3000 acts of political violence. These groups had links to intelligence agencies and the police David Duke for example was definitely an FBI informant and probably a CIA agent given his involvement in Laos's secret war. Many of these groups had links to WACL which was strongly supportive of racist groups in America and around the world. Roger Pearson, a "Scientific Racist" a Nazi, a Eugenist, a Segregationist would even head the american branch of WACL in the late 70's.


  So to review WACL's precursors included the Anti-Bolshevik League founded by Sidney Reilly uniting the proto-fascist "White Russian" Counter Revolutionaries. The Promethean League which formed the template for Nazi recruitment of Ukrainians and Turkic fascists. The Grey wolves who made news last fall when they killed a russian pilot in Syria are direct descendants of this alliance. So are the Ukrainian fascists of today waging their genocidal war on Novorossia (The breakaway Donbass region of Ukraine) Incidentally the man responsible both for the Nazi trained Turkic legions and head of the Ukrainian waffen SS division (The Nachtingall division)  was a man named Theodore Oberlander he would go on to be an important german WACL member after the war. Finally their was the International Anti-Comintern Pact which combined the worlds fascists countries and the worlds fascist movements into one giant organization absorbing both it's precursors. For more on the precursors of WACL I highly recommend that subversive classic The Great Conspiracy by Michael Sayers and Albert E. Kahn which describes the 30 years of overt and covert war waged on the Soviet Union from the time of the October Revolution up until World War 2.

 With the end of world war 2 the US would recruit General Gehlen the Nazi head of intelligence for the eastern front and along with him all of the surviving remnants of the forces that made up the anti-comintern pact. (See my June 2014 Article Nazis and the CIA for more on this topic it was Gehlen's recruitment that sparked the Cold War he fed the west false intelligence of an imminent Soviet Invasion which they pretended to believe while at the same time the west used Gehlen to wage a bloody covert war on the soviets using his fascist network especially the Ukrainians who he managed for the OPC/CIA.

   During the Cold War Three main branches of this fascist international would be regrouped into new CIC/CIA/OPC backed organizations. First  the ACEN (The captive nations) which aimed at  destroying communism in the countries of the Warsaw pact. Then there was the ABN the Anti-Bolshevik bloc of nations which went even further seeking to dismember the Soviet Union itself. This brought them into conflict with the NTS which aimed their efforts at appealing to Russians rather then minorities they were called Solidarists and they sought to convert Russia's political and military elite to the cause of anti-communism. Their strategy would perhaps be most effective of all for by Gorbachev's time all sorts of soviet government officials seemed bent on the destruction of socialism. The NTS had spent decades attempting to recruit any Russian allowed to travel abroad by that point. When the Gorbachev advisers disastrous market oriented policies had wrecked the USSR the ABN strategy of using nationalism to rip apart the Soviet Union came into effect. But of course this is skipping ahead. During the cold war nobody seemed to take these groups seriously and after the cold war ended they were all but forgotten. Yet a brief comparison of their strategies with what actually happened to the soviet union and afterwards reveal that by failing to investigate WACL historians have completely failed to understand the past 30 years of history. They have completely failed to investigate the real causes behind the most important event of our times the destruction of the USSR.

   Of course it is no mystery why mainstream academia would seek to suppress the history of WACL. This alliance of fascists, gangsters, death squads, intelligence agencies is one huge scandalous embarrassment. This is what lead the authors of the book "Inside the League" to investigate them in the first place. They discovered the importance of the League during the 80's when interviewing a Honduran death squad leader. He told them of a bizarre secret society which he believed was coordinating all the death squads of Latin America. They were known as the Tecos a Nazi secret society based in Mexico who's symbol was the Owl.The Tecos had their Origins in the Cristeros during the Mexican Revolution recruited to battle all progress in the name of the catholic church. Later they would be regrouped into the Nazi Tecos by a Mexican bishop newly returned from Hitler's Germany.  Of course in reality the Latin American death squads were being managed ultimately by the pentagon and the CIA not the Tecos and were a standard tactic in all of America's covert wars from the Philippines to Korea, Vietnam, Guatemala Colombia, Argentina and El Salvador to name only a few of the more notorious examples. However the weird Tecos were influential in shaping the ideologies of some of the Latin American Fascists and had close ties to the Guatemalans, the Argentines, and the Salvadorans. The Tecos believed that the Vatican had been taken over by a jewish-freemasonic-bolshevik conspiracy completely ignoring the tight ties between the Vatican and the Fascists especially the Germans, Italians, Croatians, Spain and Portugal. However with the growth of liberation theology among the low level clergy who began to side with the poor and to speak out against the endless atrocities of the "dirty wars" the Tecos beliefs could prove useful in justifying the torture and murder of those clergy who adopted liberation theology.


    Beginning in Bolivia under the so called "Banzer Plan"  clergy were increasingly targeted in the various dirty wars. WACL played a huge role in spreading the Banzer plan throughout Latin America the most famous victim was Archbishop Romero perhaps even more  shocking was the rape and murder of four American Nuns in El Salvador by death squads backed by their own government which also attempted to cover up their murder. For those who study some of the bizarre gangs operating as part of Mexico's Drug War clearly the Tecos also proved influential among the drug cartels. The Tecos had their own university the Autonomous University of Guadalajara AUG Tightly controlled by an inner circle of Tecos who kept all the students under constant surveillance for subversive thoughts. They even ran a death squad out of the school. The AUG was funded by big american foundations and supported by 13 mainstream american universities. Obviously the CIA was behind it why else would a nazi cult receive donations from USAID, the Rockefeller, and Ford Foundations among others. On a pop cultural note did the Tecos somehow inspire elements of "Fear the Walking Dead" which featured an ex El Salvadoran death squad member as a hero "We Had to do it!" he claims despite the fact that tiny El Salvador killed 75,000 of it's people merely to preserve the riches of 13 oligarchical families and to keep the rest of the population in dire poverty to please their evil masters in the CIA and pentagon. I couldn't help but wonder since season two was set Mexico and their were Owls eveywhere (Tecos is short for Tecolotes Owls in Spanish).  

   However the Tecos were only one element in the Latin American Branch of WACL known as CAL. Far more dangerous were for example the WACL branch in Guatemala lead by Mario Sandoval Alarcon the "Godfather of all the death squads". Or his Protege in El Salvador Roberto D'Aubuisson the murderous "Major Bob" Often the death squads even  went under WACL inspired names like "secret anti-communist army" In Argentina they were called AAA the Argentine Anti-Communist Alliance. Guatemala and Argentina would both be used by US intelligence to train latin American Death squads; who were usually interchangeable with the Police and Military, in the tactics of the dirty war. I'll return to Latin America later Central America was where WACL would play it's most public role under the leadership of "Secret Team" Member John Singlaub. Singlaub had been fighting America's dirty wars for 30 years from Korea to Vietnam 10 years of his record were still classified during the 80's but he had been in charge of the infamous SOG group the CIA managed special forces group that ran the secret war in Laos and the acted as advisers for the phoenix program.

   It is the Asian branch of WACL that played the major role in the creation of the modern WACL. Just as on the the western front even before the end of the war the US and Britain were already working with the Fascists and preparing to launch the cold war so too in the east the US was already looking to recruit the Japanese and their collaborators to prevent Asia from slipping from the empires grip. Thankfully the peoples of China, North Korea and Vietnam would eventually win their independence installing communist regimes since they had been the ones who had fought first the western imperialists then the fascist Japanese and their traitorous allies (who the US would try to reinstall against the wishes of their own peoples) In China there was the KMT which had done little in the war against Japan instead concentrating on battling the communists. At wars end they accepted into their ranks the Chinese forces that had gone over to the Japanese making them even more hated. They were already despised for their corruption, cruelty and cowardice. Thus despite massive aid and even the huge number of American troops fighting in China the communists under Mao were victorious. The nationalists were forced to retreat to what is now Taiwan but was then known as Formosa. During the civil war the KMT had launched a brutal occupation of the island and in fact Taiwan is a sort of Israel of the East. The Native Formosans are denied all say in how their island is run and live under the brutal occupation of the KMT.


    In South Korea  the story was much the same the US installed elements that had collaborated with the Japanese in their brutal occupation. They only succeeded in installing SynghmanRhee because the ruthless dictator  slaughtered all the opposition in South Korea. In indochina the US aided the French in their failed attempt to regain control of their colony. Then it sent the CIA to build up the Corrupt Ngo Dinh Diem Regime which slaughtered all it's opposition setting up a corrupt puppet government. It was these three countries along with Japan which like Germany remained a fascist country underneath it's democratic facade that were to found the asian branch of WACL in 1954 APACL from which WACL itself would grow in 1966. APACL was formed on the advice of secret team member Ray Cline. It was no doubt bankrolled with the profits of the huge asian heroin trade which the KMT controlled and which South Vietnam was also deeply involved in. South Korea would become involved in the drug trade through the Moonie Cult it ran as a front in conjunction with Japanese Fascist Gangsters and war profiteers Yoshio Kodama and his Patron Ryoichi Sasakawa both of course backed by the CIA. These two would control Japan's one party "democracy" backing the corrupt Liberal Democractic Party in it's decades long unchallenged rule of Japan. WACL's asian drug connections would be exposed in the 70's when a Laotian APACL delegate would be busted in Paris with 4 pounds of heroin in his suitcase.

   The Moonies the nickname for Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Unification church played a huge role in bankrolling WACL. It was backed by the Korean CIA, the Japanese Yakuza and doubtless the US CIA. It owns the Washington Times which it uses to spread right wing disinformation. Despite believing that Jesus was an utter failure and that Reverend Moon is the true Messiah who will save the world by having sex with his followers, it has many friends and allies on the christian right like Jerry Fallwell and Pat Robertson. It also controls a number of politicians with the seemingly bottomless funds which undoubtedly come from the drug traffic most authors like to pretend that their funding is a mystery but given their blatant role in Bolivia's cocaine coup and their ties to the drug dealing contras as well as through WACL to the notorious KMT drug dealers, and the drug dealing Sasakawa and Kodama who ran a massive heroin ring out of Manchuria during WWII we can safely throw caution to the wind and solve the mystery of the moonies bottomless funding which allows them to run the Washington times at a 3 Billion Dollar loss and buy up american politicians. Some of this was exposed in a scandal during the 70's and 80's known as Koreagate. Moon is undoubtedly one of the stranger forces behind WACL. Robert Parry of Consortium news has done great work exposing them if you want to read more. Moons political front group CAUSA was deeply involved in backing death squads and in fact a co-author of inside the league observed that death squads often wore CAUSA t-Shirts.


   It was APACL the Asian Branch of WACL that would publicly at least give birth to the modern WACL In 1966. Of Course the ABN was just as influential in the creation of WACL and in fact Yaroslav Stetsko was a frequent guest of Chiang Kai-Shek Taiwan's drug dealing KMT dictator and was with other ABN members closely tied to APACL. APACL would be founded in 1954 in response to the end of the Korean war and the defeat of the french in Vietnam. The dictators Syngman Rhee, Chiang Kai Shek, and Ngo Dinh Diem would all be founding members with CIA man Ray Cline behind the scenes. It was formed to regroup these fascist forces in support of the CIA's covert wars throughout southeast Asia which would evolve into the Vietnam War, The wars in Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand and would continue the Covert war on China. We can be certain that APACL helped bring these bloody wars which would claim millions of lives into being.  APACL was used also to continue the work of the China lobby then mired in a bribery and corruption scandal. The same year of 1954 in the aftermath of the CIA coup that toppled Arbenz in Guatemala a latin American Branch was also formed. In attendance were Howard Hunt, Lucein Conein, and Mitch Werbell 3 of the most notorious "Secret Team" members. This Latin American branch would be used to organize the bloody reign of the death squads which would emanate out of Guatemala and El Salvador. Born out of past and future war criminals in conjunction with the machinations of the CIA WACL play a role in bringing untold bloodshed upon the world. In Indochina, in Central and South America, in Afghanistan, in Southern Africa WACL would be used to facilitate America's bloody war on the planet what I call World War 3. And it would continue to play a role in shaping the events of world War 4 from Afghanistan to Yugoslavia, Ukraine, Syria and Turkey to name only some of the more obvious examples. WACL would even help give birth to Al Qaeda and in the 80's the Saudi's became major WACL sponsors.


   However like my earlier Iran/Contra article I have taken so long introducing the World Anti-Communist League and explaining it's origins that once again I must end with a to be continued.

    2016 has been a dark year for the world. And yet thing are inevitably going to get even worse as the world wonders which monster will be crowned emperor this fall here in the empire of chaos. Brazil has fallen Venezuela and the progressive governments of Latin America are under threat. The dirty wars continue in Mexico and Colombia. In Oaxaca the Mexican government conducted a massacre of teachers resisting attempts to privatize the education system. In Libya a campaign of assassinations aims to wipe out anyone in the army loyal to the Libyan people rather then the NATO death squads. Meanwhile terrorists death squads slaughter Libyan civilians with impunity. They also treacherously murdered a dozen former Libyan government officials after finally releasing them after years of torture and mistreatment. Eritrea one of the only independent African countries has come under military attack from Ethiopia. Coups and destabilization attempts threaten South Africa and Zimbabwe. In fact the empire of chaos is busy spreading chaos and bloodshed throughout Africa and indeed the whole world.  The empire is on the attack all over the world ultimately targeting China and Russia of course.

  In Syria the situation has been grim. Progress in liberating the country from NATO's death squads has been slow since the empire launched it's counter offensive in Aleppo a couple months ago. Every time Syria launches a new offensive they are eventually forced to call it off in order to counter a terrorist counter offensive somewhere else. The "ceasefire" has been disastrous with Russia withholding vital support for Syria in pursuit of the illusion that the US is interested in a end to this war. Meanwhile the US and it's allies in the axis of chaos (US-NATO-Israel-GCC) have been flooding the terrorists with men and weapons and using negotiations to delay a Russian response. In the meantime the people of Syria have suffered massive terror attacks and constant shelling and bombardment from the death squads. Massive suicide bombings have rocked Syria which would be front page news if they happened anywhere else. Meanwhile the US has used it's base in the Kurdish areas in the north to launch a NATO invasion using special forces troops and their proxies to attempt to Seize Syrian territory. This force is a major threat clearly aiming to balkanize Syria and ensure that it can never be reunited and that this war will never end for either Iraq or Syria or Lebanon.

   Thankfully things may finally be starting to turn around Russia has finally figured out (or remembered ) that the US will not be satisfied until Syria is destroyed. A couple weeks ago the top defense figures of Russia, Iran Hezbollah and Syria met in Tehran to plan a new offensive. Iran has been courageously sending more and more advisers into the war and rumor has it will massively increase it's forces in the country. Sayyyed Hassan Nasrallah the Hezbollah leader has announced that the battle for Aleppo has become the major priority. Russia has been bombing the terrorists in Aleppo non-stop for the last 48 hours. Yesterday Syria and it's allies launched a major offensive aimed at liberating the city and the surrounding countryside. We can only hope that they will finally be able to break the stalemate in Syria. The goal is to close off the vital terrorists supply route at the Castillo Highway. So far they have managed to make some advances we will have to wait and see how things progress.

   Syria's last offensive which aimed at countering the american advance on Raqqa by retaking the nearby strategic military airport at Tabaqa ended in disaster last week after a promising start. The SAA were slowly advancing towards Tabaqa and eventually headed for Raqqa when a well timed ISIS counter offensive forced them to retreat. The only consolation was that the American advance on Raqqa has also been plagued with disaster. The war itself increasingly resembles the situation before the Russians intervened with the SAA being forced to fight on too many fronts to make much progress. In Stead of carrying out offensives Syria's elite units are constantly having to be redrawn to counter the latest terrorist counter offensive. Syria is once again battling for it's very survival and has lost the momentum it had earlier this spring. This has only emboldened the empire of chaos and in fact 50 State department officials signed a petition in an attempt to impress Hillary Clinton demanding Obama start bombing the Syrian Government immediately. Hopefully such schemes will at least be delayed until a possible Clinton presidency next year but Obama seems obsessed with destroying as many countries as possible before leaving office as evidenced by the wave of coups and attempted coups sweeping the world. Russia needs to stop encouraging this madness with it's foolish attempts at diplomacy. America will never stop until Russia and China are destroyed and if Russia sacrifices Syria it will loose all credibility for the next 10-20 years. Even when Russia was completely subservient during the Yeltsin years Washington never stopped trying to destroy Russia.  We are in the middle of World War 4 and it will only end with the collapse of the American Empire or the destruction of Russia and China. Until then the empire of chaos will continue it's endless war across the globe it is not suddenly going to wake up one day and decide it wants peace the entire economy is geared for endless war and for america's rulers "Peace" would be the ultimate danger.


  Thankfully Russia appears to have remembered this yet again and will hopefully increase it's support as Syria battles for it's very existence. In fact a couple weeks ago it signaled that it's patience with Kerry's diplomatic games had finally worn thin when it supposedly bombed a group of openly US supported rebels near Tanf. The US has been trying to brand all manner of terror groups like Al Nusra (Al Qaeda in Syria) and Ahrar al Sham (a coalition of terrorist death squads) as "moderate rebels". A "moderate" is any one who serves the empire of chaos no matter how insane or fanatical. It goes back to the cold war when the US always called it's fanatical gulf monarch allies like the Saudis the "moderate" arabs simply because they were happy to become tools of the west while Arab nationalists were labeled "extremists" for opposing the US and Israel.  In the current context it's all a transparent attempt to prevent Russia or Syria from bombing it's terrorist allies. Russia must ignore such nonsense as well as the storm of propaganda the west has been launching over the conflict. The west has been demonizing Russia for centuries they won't stop no matter how many "moderates" Russia spares.


   So the future of Syria depends on it's allies coming together and resolutely resisting all attempts to destroy and partition Syria. Unified the P4+2 Syria, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Hezbollah and the Palestinian forces that have sided with Syria are a formidable force. They must redouble their efforts and regain the momentum that has been lost these past couple of months. The fate of Syria may well decide the fate of the world. With their renewed offensive in the Battle of Aleppo they may be able to reverse the gains the terrorists made their in April and decisively shift the balance of power in the war. Aleppo like Stalingrad may be one of those battles that mark a decisive moment in history. Russian planes are pounding the terrorists. The Syrian Arab army is advancing in tanks and on foot. Hezbollah, Palestinians, Iraqis, Afghanis, and of course Syrian militias are engaged in dangerous urban combat. Iranian, Russian and Hezbollah advisers are risking their lives on the frontline as they train the people of Syria to better defend their country. Rockets and  artillery, are raining down on the terrorists. Syria has launched offensives on 5 major fronts in the battle for Aleppo. We can only hope that it will be enough to change the course of this war. The fate of the world hangs in the balance.

The Macro-Economics of Murder in Mexico

On December 31, 2015, in its report titled "The situation of human rights in Mexico", the Inter­American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) stated that in Mexico the administration of justice is a "simulation" and that while the Mexican State itself reported 26,798 people "not located" or missing nationwide, there were only issued six sentences at the federal level for the crime of forced disappearance. Regarding the 43 missing of Ayotzinapa the report argues that it is "an emblematic example of the apparent collusion between state agents and members of organized crime," adding that "the practice of torture is alarming."

In short, the Commission states "Mexico has been experiencing a serious crisis of violence and security for several years," a "serious human rights crisis (which) was observed on the ground and is characterized by an extreme situation of insecurity and violence".

Beyond the overwhelming data on violations of human rights that the Mexican state systematically implements (although the Commission is unaware that the security crisis and human rights crisis are not the same thing and are not processes that should necessarily be related) it’s important to know there is a material basis that systemically "justifies" both crises.
As in Colombia in the 80s it was asserted that capitalist development was based on a system of "profits through blood and fire," it remains to be seen if in Mexico there is a similar less generic and more specific correlative to explain the "human rights crisis" underway.

Mexican GDP growth for 2016 is expected to be 2.4%, after the IMF corrected downwards its forecast of January 2016, which in turn corrected downward forecasts of October 2015. While the economies of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are impacted by the global decline in oil prices, "the exhibition of the Mexican economy to oil exports is not as big." On the other hand foreign direct investment (FDI), which was US$24.837 billion in 2015, will be US$28.695 billion in 2016. The World Bank says that GDP growth in the LAC region is completely stagnated in 2015, but since Mexico grew less than the rest in the boom period, it’s picking up rapidly under rising consumption in the United States.

Although the global economy continues to recover, it does so at an increasingly fragile slower pace and where the downward scenarios are more likely to materialize. In a regional context of widespread falls (­3.5 Brazil, Argentina ­1.0; ­8.0 Venezuela, Ecuador ­4.5) only Colombia (2.7), USA (2.6) and Mexico (2.4) contradict the current. Meanwhile on a global level Russia falls 1.0 and China continues to decrease in rate of growth (6.9 in 2015, 6.3 in 2016).

How are the security crisis and these good macroeconomic indicators related?, a question that addresses the overlap between the legal and illegal economy. One example is drug money
laundering by financial institutions such as HSBC, Citigroup and Santander, denounced for allowing money laundering through their accounts. Another is the relationship between drug cartels in Michoacán that control the exploitation of iron and transnationals like Ternium, Arcelor Mittal and Endeavour Silver.

More specifically the murder of Bernardo Mendez, for opposing the Fortuna Silver Mines in Oaxaca, those of Ismael Solorio and Manuela Solís, against mining company MAG Silver in Sonora, or Betty Cariño, against mining company New Gold in San Luis Potosí, show a wide diffusion of the boundary between legal and illegal, what is usually referred to as primitive accumulation of capital.

Frequent attacks against various Indigenous communities respond to the need to implement projects that extend the extractive and agribusiness border or for the construction of major infrastructure. The conflict of the Yaquis by the Independence Aqueduct shows this matrix.
To a large extent the human rights crisis is the result of the current economic development model in Mexico. In the first place this model sharpens the limitations involving large collective farmers, indigenous and urban populations. The privatization of strategic natural resources, trade pacts that deregulate the land, the closure of access to sources of water supply, extractive pressures on forests and woodlands, aggravated by the energy reform and the Mining Law, signify a needed concatenation between development and violation of rights. Secondly, economic growth that comes from the very large investments, carries with it the rules of entrepreneurship of the global economy itself, with one­sided contracts, special legislation, flattening of wages, deunionization of labor and flexibility all along the line.


This systematic violation of human rights is necessary, not only convenient for the current success of the model of economic development in Mexico. Mexican development does not arise spontaneously with the sole requirement of the "invisible hand "and self­regulation of market laws. A strong state interventionism arbitrates between dissonant actors, furious localism and scarce resources, where everything, especially geography conspires against.


Given the geopolitical conditioning itself of a country surrounded by deserts to the north, jungle to the south and mountains to the east and west, without any navigable river in its territory, where the areas of production and consumption are far from each other and it is also neighbor of US, the strategic maintenance of an average growth rate of 2.5% (slightly surpassing the American rate) can only take place in a context of regional recession and weak global growth by exercising extreme pressure on the country’s productive substratum: geography and population.
In addition, although 46% poverty softens the dispute over participation in national income, the existence of a sclerotic party system does not allow processing and channeling of demands, quickly turning them unconstitutional. That the poverty rate in Veracruz is 58% (17% in extreme poverty) helps to understand one aspect of the crisis of human rights there. The other aspect has to do with the millionaire investments that are destined to the port authority and the need to
regiment the riotous participation in a growing income, a more urgent task there than anywhere else.
The relative welfare and progressivism in which millions of people live Mexico City sits atop the cruelty of a ruling class that understands (correctly) that to grow is to prey and repress.

    This year will mark the 30th Anniversary of the Iran Contra affair. This "Scandal" briefly revealed the massive crimes that are always going on behind america's facade of respectability. It revealed the activities of the Secret Team of current and former CIA agents who for thirty years had been training and supporting drug dealing exile armies, from China, to Burma, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, Cuba, Afghanistan, and of course Nicaragua. Drugs, Weapons dealing, money laundering, political bribery, terrorism, assassination, covert wars were just a few of their activities. But you'll have to read part one to find out more about that. This time instead of examining the scandal itself I'll be widening the focus to reveal the worldwide covert war the US was waging with renewed intensity during the 80's the final decade of what I call World War 3. World War 3 was primarily a war on the third world it began before world war 2 even ended in places like Greece and China. With the end of World War 2 it kicked into high gear targeted the soviet union with a covert war using fascist exiles like the Ukrainians and waging a massive and almost forgotten war to prevent Mao from liberating China and later waged covert war on china using drug dealing KMT exile armies.  The Philippines became a laboratory for counter insurgency and psychological operations. Millions would die in wars waged on Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and Laos.


    For Latin America the war had started before War 2 had even begun in El Salvador in the thirties for example the US backed Maximiliano Hernandez Martinez as he seized power and waged a bloody war on all opposition real and imagined which killed over 40,000 peasants in a dirty war very similar to the one El Salvador would wage with Reagan's backing in the 1980's. In fact it began even before World War 1 with America's forgotten wars on Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti where after waging bloody colonial wars it then installed military dictators that would form the pattern for the rest of the century. Of course it began even before that with the Spanish American war and even before that in America's scores of forgotten wars in Latin America during the 19th century. Mercenary William Walker invaded Nicaragua during the middle of the 19th century and installed slavery to give the most relevant example. But of course one could write a book or even fill a library on either the events of World War 3 or of the many bloody and genocidal wars the US has waged on Latin America. Thus I will focus on the 80's which saw the end of World War with the destruction of the Soviet Union. It was also a time when many of the seeds of the wars of World War 4 were planted. The Current Wars on Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia, Lebanon, Ukraine, Panama, Somalia, Rwanda, DRCongo, and many more all had their origins in the 70's and 80's a topic I discussed at the end of part one.

   Before I plunge into a a tour of World War 3 in the 80's I'll add a a little more context. This whole era was shaped by the glorious victory of the people of Vietnam over US Imperialism. For the US it was a humiliating defeat 1975 the year South Vietnam collapsed was an important origin point for all the events of this era. Like America's recent defeat in Iraq it lead to an increasing reliance  on "proxy forces" in other words bands of CIA and special forces trained death squads. They reasoned that so long as no american soldiers were dying the american people wouldn't care. As I mentioned this is very similar to the post Iraq strategy the redirection which has seen an increasing reliance on death squads to wage war in places like Syria and Libya. To return to the late 70's Ironically it had been this strategy of waging war through CIA death squads that had lead to the Vietnam war in the first place and the related wars on all of southeast Asia. History repeats itself and America is loosing a war in Afghanistan that it launched covertly in the 70's using it's army of drug dealing proxies. A war it had renewed in 2001 again using drug dealing proxies. In invading Afghanistan it seems that US imperialism intentionally tried to give itself it's own second Vietnam an endless war for the sake of endless war aimed solely at expanding the CIA controlled global heroin trade. And Ironically Afghanistan only became the center of the global Heroin trade in response to the US loss of south east Asia. For more on this topic see Peter Dale Scott's "American War Machine."

    The final Years of world War 3 thus saw a sort of Global "Contra" war "Contra" meant counter revolutionary by the way. This is appropriate since in many ways one could see one of origins of the Iran Contra Affair in the closing days of World War 1. In Russia a second Communist revolution overthrew the Provisional government established after the "Bourgeois Democratic" February Revolution. Russia's proto-fascist "White" forces were eventually defeated and became a fanatically anti-communist exile army used by the west to wage covert war and espionage on what became the Soviet Union. They were important influences on the birth of Fascism especially the figure of Alfred Rosenberg. Before the revolution and during the civil war these counter revolutionary death squads had waged war on all progress and had terrorized Russia's minorities especially the jews. During the failed 1905 Russian revolution these protofascist death squads were called the "black hundreds." In Germany in the wake of world war one the government relied on right wing paramilitary death squads to put down a series of failed revolutions and to assassinate all progressive forces. They were secretly controlled by german intelligence these were the true origins of the Nazi party and Fascism. During world war 2 the Nazis would create an army of fascist death squads from all over Europe the Waffen SS who would wage a genocidal campaign across the eastern front killing millions, of jews, Russians, Poles, Belarussians, Serbs and many other victims in a largely suppressed aspect of world war 2.


     After World War 2 they were recruited by the CIA and NATO. Many were recruited into the CIA and American special forces. In turn american special forces and the CIA would train death squads around the world. Of course one also shouldn't forget the role of the british and French in shaping america's counter-insurgency strategies or of course America's own long experience waging dirty wars gained suppressing slave revolts, and committing genocide on indians then honed in it's wars on Latin America and the Philippines. Like Russia America had always had it's own black hundred that went by names such as the KKK, the Black Legion, the Silver Shirts the Minutemen etc. Even before the civil war pro-slavery vigilantes would terrorize anyone daring to oppose slavery lynching even whites for this crime as Gerald Horne points out in his "Negro Comrades of the Crown." All the same white Russians, the nazis, and the many other fascists played a very important role in shaping the American doctrines of counter insurgency. In fact american army manuals were actually written from the Nazi perspective claiming that Instead of attempting to conquer the east the Nazis had tried to "liberate" eastern Europe while partisan resistance forces that were fighting to liberate their lands from Nazi occupation were called terrorists. This attitude persists to this day wherever America is conquering and destroying some new country they claim to be acting as liberators while all resistance is labeled as terrorism. This is no mere speculation on my part but was thoroughly documented in Michael McClintock's indispensable "Instruments of State Craft."


    Hence drawing on the experiences of french and british imperialism and on the fascist death squads America launched it's bloody world War 3 on the Planet. Greece would prove an important early testing ground as would the Philippines where CIA psyops specialist Ed Landsdale built up Ramon Magsaysay into a right wing dictator that would be the model used to build up Diem in Vietnam as the French were losing their war. Next came Coups in Iran and Guatemala covert wars on Indonesia followed eventually by a coup and a genocidal massacre. You'll have to read William Blum's Classic "Killing Hope" for a much fuller account although even he doesn't manage to catalog all of America's crimes during world war 3 to do so would take a Library rather then a single book. No one has yet managed to capture just how interconnected all these wars were instead they are seen as separate wars not one single giant endless war as it should more truly be seen as. This is how the planners themselves viewed it and they actually used the term World War 3. I don't know who said it first my guess would be it was plagiarized from some fascist like so many "Cold War" Slogans. Churchill stole the term Iron Curtain From Goebbels for example. "Better dead then Red" was another bit of Nazi propaganda plagiarized by the west. The Phrase World War 3 was used in the Santa Fe Statement that provided a blue print for Reagan's Rollback strategy during the 80s. It was also used by the Fascist Argentine Junta during their dirty war on their own people during the 70's and early 80s. So far the Earliest reference I have come across is in  Fletcher Prouty's "The Secret Team" where he includes a speech by General Ennis C Whitehead later founder of Air Defense Command who claimed back in 1949 that "World War 3 has already begun."



    Iran Contra should be seen as a window onto all the covert wars of the era the final years of World War 3. Many of these wars were closely connected. There was the covert war on Nicaragua using the Contra Death Squads who waged a terror campaign on their former country. They would occupy a village and round up anyone they thought was connected with the government like teachers or doctors and gather the whole village together so they would be forced to watch as the Contras cut their victims up murdering them in the ugliest manner possible. They would of course also bomb hospitals and schools kidnap children, rape women, kidnap, torture, and murder anyone they felt like and then rob the locals. More then 50,000 people would be killed in the tiny country. This war was of course closely connected to the bloody and genocidal wars being waged by El Salvador and Guatemala on their own people. Villages were constantly being bombed napalmed and shelled or invaded by US trained paramilitary death squads. 100,000 would die in Guatemala just in the 80's. In El Salvador the death toll was 75,000. Anyone working on behalf of the poor whether Teachers, Students, labor leaders, clergy or even doctors were singled out for torture and disappearance. All based on the "Nationals Security State" Ideology created with the help of the nazis and taught all over latin America and indeed the world. Meanwhile lower intensity conflicts as the pentagon called it's mass murder campaigns were being waged in Costa Rica and Honduras where death squads killed and tortured hundreds. The Contras based there also terrorized the locals. To the North there was Mexico which was then as today waging an endless dirty war on it's people. To the South their were all the dirty wars of Operation Condor. They had moved their network into central America which already had it's own condor style Network called Condeca dating back to the 60's. Condor operatives in Chile, Argentina, and Bolivia would play important roles in training the Contras in the art of torture and murder what the pentagon calls Counter-Insurgency. Nazi exiles had played an important role in all 3 countries especially Bolivia where Klaus Barbie would be one of the Ringleaders in "Cocaine" Coup along with famed Gladio terrorist Stefano delle Chiaie who also helped train the Central American Death Squads. Colombia with it's own dirty war would also be closely involved with the contras as a source of cocaine and money. The rise of Colombia in the Drug Trade had been propelled by the Cocaine coup in Bolivia. To understand the Dirty Wars in Latin America one Must Read J. Patrice McSherry's "Predatory States" All throughout South America the CIA, the Pentagon, and their client States waged a terror campaign against the people of the continent that continues to our own day and Is expanding throughout the continent.

   Across Ocean in the Middle East and Central Asia there were another closely connected series of wars. There was Israel's endless war of occupation against the Palestinians of course. Olliver North was involved in manipulating Israeli controlled Palestinian factions (Abu Nidal is one infamous example) to launch attacks which Israel could use as an excuse to attack the PLO and Any country they were based in. Israel had also foolishly intervened in the Lebanese Civil War which they'd provoked in the first place with their promises to the fascist Phalange in Lebanon. They hoped to break the spirit of Palestinian resistance in the occupied territories by destroying their base of resistance in Lebanon. Instead the Palestinians would later rise up in the 1st Intifada so that part of the plan proved a failure. Kissinger had earlier manipulated Hafez Assad into intervening into Lebanon because he feared that if the more radical faction (an alliance of Palestinian and Lebanese nationalist and socialist groups) won the Lebanese Civil War  Israel would invade. However Israel later Invaded anyways and despite American promises attacked the Syrian forces. They hoped to force the Palestinian Resistance out of Lebanon. They hoped to install a puppet Government in Lebanon. Instead they provoke the birth of Hezbollah and eventually suffered a humiliating defeat. America also intervened in this war shelling the anti Israel factions with their fleet. This provoked a bombing of first CIA headquarters and then the Marine Barracks.

    The bombing of the Barracks forced Reagan to withdraw but he took his revenge on the third world by invading Grenada back in the Caribbean overthrowing the socialist government there. The CIA was probably responsible for the death of Maurice Bishop at the hands of a faction claiming to be Marxist-Leninists. Bishop had been a close friend of Fidel Castro no genuine revolutionary would have murdered him. The Murder was the excuse for the invasion. Another island was closely connected to Iran Contra I recently learned. In the 70's the CIA launched a destabilization campaign against Jamaica and they used the Same Infamous CIA cuban exiles that they would use in so many of their covert wars including Luis  Posada Carrilles and Felix Rodriguez. Once again the CIA would create a drug dealing death squad to terrorize Jamaica and they would prove almost as important as the Contras in Spreading Crack cocaine unlike the contras they had their own street level distribution network. They CIA cubans were also deeply involved In Venezuela's Dirty War. In Fact the CIA helped Carriles escape from a Venezuelan prison where he was being held for bombing a cuban airliner so he could help run the Contras in Nicaragua.


   To return to the middle East. Close to Lebanon was Syria where in the 80's a covert war was waged using the muslim brotherhood which bears a striking resemblance to the war of today. Thankfully Hafez Assad was able to crush the first attempt. Syria was also battling Israel in the Bloody Lebanese Civil War. It never receives the credit it deserves for the heroic sacrifice of it's air force or the glorious achievement of it's army in holding back the Israeli forces.  From Syria we move to Iraq where Assad's fellow Baathist but bitter enemy Saddam Hussein had been manipulated into invading Iran by Zbigniew Brzezinski and fed phony intel that Iran would be an easy target because of the chaos brought on by the Iranian Revolution. In reality he was playing into the hands of the Israeli's who wanted destroy Iraq. They were busy supplying the Iranian's with weapons in defiance of the americans who were funneling weapons to Saddam so he could wage war on their behalf in revenge for the fall of the Shah. But of course the American's were also secretly arming the Iranians first in return for not releasing the hostages until Reagan's Inauguration then of course as part of Iran Contra. At the same time it was flooding Saddam with weapons giving him access to satellite imagery and near the end of the war using the US navy to blow an an Iranian passenger jet out of the sky a warning to let Iraq win or else. At the same time it had already begun plotting his downfall manipulating Kuwait into provoking Iraq.


   Turkey must be mentioned it was a waging a bloody dirty war using fascist drug dealing death squads most notoriously the Grey Wolves. Turkey would go on to play a major role in spreading Al Qaeda a fact now obvious in Syria but with a long covert history. Turkey was connected with the Mafia and P2 and It's own fascist mafia and intelligence service closely resembled the situation in the Condor Countries. Dewey Claridge had worked in Italy then, Turkey before later going to El Salvador. Now moving east again we have Iran desperate for weapons since it was under sanctions and under attack by Iraq. 800,000 Iraqis and Iranians would die in this war. Iran was an Ally of Syria and was supporting the Shiite Militias of Hezbollah in the Lebanese Civil War. The wave of kidnappings their proxies carried out were actually in revenge for the kidnapping of High ranking Iranian officials in Lebanon years before by Israel's fascist proxies. In addition after invading Israel started sending Lebanese prisoners en Masse back to Israeli prisons for years of torture. In Revenge Iran's allies in Lebanon would launch their own  wave of kidnappings. Unfortunately many of the victims had actually been sympathetic to their cause since few foreigners were crazy enough to remain in Beirut during Lebanon's bloody civil war except those with deep local ties or were there to observe the bloody war for political reasons. However one of their victims William Buckley was not so innocent he was in charge the CIA chief of station in Lebanon and was in charge of counter-terror (a euphemism for terrorism itself in pentagon speak) for the entire region. He was tortured on video tape revealing many embarrassing secrets that only Iranian intelligence now knows. It Must have involved Oliver North's massive network of terrorist death squads. His kidnapping would provide a major motive for the arms and hostage trading that so upset Reagan's supporters.



   Like Syria Libya would also experience a preview of it's future war during the 80's when the Reagan administration tried to destabilize Libya and overthrow Gaddafi. They failed  to overthrow him but the CIA made many Libyan contacts it would use decades later when they destroyed the country. Libya was the target of a massive propaganda campaign based on lies supplied by Mossad agent and Arms dealer Manucher Ghorbanifar. The American public spent years in Hysteria over imaginary hit teams that Ghorbanifar made up. When Gaddafi had been thoroughly demonized the US tried to Assassinate him in a bombing campaign killing his adopted baby daughter instead. Also in Africa there was the war between Ethiopia and Somalia with the US and Israel backing Somalia and Cuba and the Soviets backing Ethiopia. It was this war that would lead to the complete collapse of the Somali state opening them up to decades more of foreign intervention. Ethiopia was also waging a war against Eritrea.


   Africa had too many wars going on to discuss them all and there are doubtless more then a few that I haven't even heard of. One vital war during this period was the covert war in Uganda where the CIA was backing Museveni and his Lieutenant Paul Kagame in their brutal takeover of the country involving Psyops, genocide and child soldiers. Once Museveni was successful Paul Kagame would later begin his brutal war on Rwanda in 1990 backed by the US and utilizing the tactics he learned studying psychological warfare in the US thanks to the army training him. After 800,000 people were killed in Rwanda during the war he seized power and launched a war on the Congo that has left 10 Million dead and continues to this day.

   The Wars of national liberation being waged in Southern Africa were closely connected the Iran contra network. Israel and South Africa were close allies. The US and Britain were also close allies of South Africa although sometimes they tried to disguise this increasingly unpopular alliance. In addition to supporting Apartheid South Africa they were allied with them in wars against Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, and earlier Zimbabwe. The wars on Angola and Mozambique were very similar to the war on Nicaragua. The US and it's allies backed the terrorist death Squads of UNITA and Renamo as they waged a bloody war against the people of Angola and Mozambique. In Angola one of UNITA's specialties was attempting to bring agriculture to a standstill by planting land mines in the farmers fields so they would be afraid to farm the results were starvation death and tens of thousands of people with their limbs blown off just one of UNITA's many atrocities. The contras, UNITA, and the Afghan Mujahideen all had the same friends and the funding of their terror campaigns were closely linked. They were also all supported by the World Anti-Communist league uniting Fascist SS Veterans, Drug Lords, Taiwanese fascists, Latin American death squads, "Scientific Racists, and other unsavory american allies who had put Reagan in office in the first place. Needless to say Unita, The Contras and the Mujahideen also shared enemies with the Cubans and the Soviets aiding Angola, the ANC and Nicaragua, I have written at length about the war in Angola.

   While on the Subject of Cuba as mentioned many members of the secret team were cuban exiles and they had captured and killed Che while he was in Bolivia Felix Rodriguez a close friend of George H.W. Bush and Donald Gregg and a central figure in the Iran/Contra scandal (Under the fake name Max Gomez) he would wear Che's watch the rest of his life. To illegally fund the war on Angola the US and it's allies had founded the Safari Club. This Safari Club would prove important in the creation of Al Qaeda France UK, and Saudi Arabia were among the key members. The Safari Club was deeply involved in funding the covert war on Afghanistan. This was the CIA's largest Covert War begun by Brezinski in 1978 and probably even before with the Shah waging a covert war beginning much earlier. With the fall of the Shah the US sought to replace the loss of Iran with an increased role in Pakistan. General Zhia al Haq was to play the role of the Shah only this time far more invested in manipulating religion. Needless to say Pakistan like Turkey and Saudi Arabia would play a key role in the creation of Al Qaeda and 911 itself. Pakistan would form the base from which the CIA would wage it's covert war on Afghanistan yet again using an army of drug dealing exiles. This would be a good time to bring up the Saudi's they sent a billion dollars to wage the war on Afghanistan. They also were the biggest cash donor to the contras, and helped fund UNITA thru the Safari Club. Given recent events in Syria I should point of that MSF "Doctors Without Borders" provided medical care to the terrorist death squads in Afghanistan. Obviously the war in Afghanistan is to complex to go into here in much detail but apparently contrary to myth the Russian's intervened to depose the CIA agent Amin who was slaughtering people on CIA orders while pretending to be a communist. The Soviet's entered the country on Amin's invitation then killed Amin installing their own candidate. They got bogged down into a bloody civil war as the CIA sent wave after wave of death squads into the country trained and armed in Pakistan. They funded themselves thru the Heroin trade and as was usual with CIA armies weapons were smuggled in drugs were smuggled out and Afghanistan quickly went from a zero percent share of the world heroin market in 1978 to a 60% share in 1981. The Taliban Briefly cut back on opium production but after the CIA invasion using the drug smuggling northern alliance as their proxies Afghanistan is now the source of 96% of the World's Heroin. Thanks to it's covert wars in Asia and Latin America the CIA has controlled the global drug trade for many decades. To return to the 80's finally in Asia there were the covert wars the CIA continued to carry out supporting the Khemer Rouge and China against Vietnam and waging a secret war I unfortunately know little about. However for decades after the final liberation of their country the US continued to wage covert war on Vietnam using a drug dealing exile army, the CIA and special forces.


However before we complete our tour of world world war 3 and while on the topic of Asia I should mention the very important role of Taiwan and South Korea in the Iran Contra affair. After Mao had succeeded in liberating China from the fascists pawns of the imperialists or KMT as they called themselves, the KMT had decided to make their base on the island of Formosa which they conquered like a brutal army of occupation killing anyone who dared to complain. South Korea and South Vietnam had the similar origins in that they violently imposed their rule killing all dissenters. Back in the United States this is what passed for the "Free World." Of Course they did it all with the help of their OPC/ and Later CIA advisers so US silence on their misdeeds is unsurprising. Yet to this day whenever the Korean War or Vietnam War is discussed in the Media they always fail to mention anything about the origin or nature of the states that America fought for killing millions to prevent the rise of communism.

   South Vietnam would eventually be liberated and Vietnam reunited. Taiwan and South Korea however remained right wing authoritarian regimes. They were the two most important founding members of WACL and they also funneled huge sums of money to buy american politicians. One of the stranger players in the Iran Contra Scandal is Reverend Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church. It was closely allied with George Bush and also owns the Washington times. It was a front for the Taiwanese, Korean, and Japanese Mafias. It was also a front for the CIA and Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean Intelligence the unoriginally named KCIA. Thru it's political front CAUSA it played an important role in the Bolivian cocaine coup, and in the wars in central America. Taiwan was also vital to Iran contra it was where many of the right wing Latin American death squads had been trained and indoctrinated in "Political Warfare" and Counter-Insurgency (Mass murder and torture) Taiwan was a key WACL country and helped get Reagan elected. As Mentioned Michael Deaver was the PR man for Taiwan, Argentina, and Guatemala and he would later work for South Korea. Iran Contra tied together not only the many wars of the Era but the many Right Wing Dictatorships who were all major contra sponsors. They all coordinated their efforts thru WACL and other groups like the Safari Club. Iran Contra also tied together a huge number of foreign lobbies the Heroin financed "China" lobby (Taiwan lobby) that had played such a major role in the origins of world War 3. After the Guatemalan coup of 1954 the china lobby had helped set up a powerful Guatemala and Somoza lobby. Senator Charlie Wilson who lobbied on behalf of the Afghan Death Squads was owned by this Guatemala Somoza lobby Peter Dale Scott mentions in passing. The CIA made an idiotic movie about him Charlie Wilson's war.


   To return to Lobbies The Israel Lobby today the most powerful was obviously deeply involved. The Saudi lobby was also heavily involved. It was in the Reagan era that the Saudi and Israeli lobby began their alliance after Israel failed to stop the AWACS deal which was actually a cover for funding covert wars all over the planet just like the recent massive sale of weapons to Saudi Arabia was a cover for the massive expansion of ISIS.  And of course the cuban exiles have their own powerful lobby financed through drug deals. Sibel Edmonds has also exposed the activities of the Turkish lobby which like the "china lobby" is funded thru heroin profits and is involved in buying american politicians with huge suitcases of cash. And it was not just foreign lobbies involved. The military industrial complex had their own lobby the American Security Council which had sent John Singlaub to Central America to give encouragement to the Contras and solicit illegal donations for the Reagan campaign from the wealthy oligarchs of El Salvador and Guatemala. Singlaub would later become the head of WACL. Also heavily involved in buying politicians worldwide was the bank BCCI which was used to funnel money to death squads across the world, buy politicians, sell weapons, and of course launder the massive drug profits of the Iran Contra era. Although the bank would finally close many of it's former employees were later exposed funding Al Qaeda in the aftermath of 9/11 no surprise since the CIA, the Saudis, the Pakistanis, and the Safari club had been deeply involved with the bank.

    Aside from Covert Wars, and lobbies, Iran Contra was about the secret "black" global economy the endless secret transfer of money around the world from shell company to shell company. The endless funneling of weapons and drugs around the world and the massive profits gained. The endless corporate theft that goes on in the big corporations that is only discussed when it all crashes but is what the economy is really all about legalized theft for the billionaires using complex methods the rest of us can barely even understand. However the Savings and loan scandals were closely tied to the Iran Contra scandal. Then there are the massive secret fortunes. I recently learned of the massive amounts of Gold the US seized from the Nazis and Japanese then used the money to fund the covert wars of world war 3 as Peggy and Sterling Seagraves reveal in "Gold Warriors" which I haven't read yet but learned of through their interviews. This hidden stash of gold is still being used in all sorts of schemes.


   To return to banks the Italian Iran Contra connection involved the P2 lodge and the infamous Banco Ambrosiano in Milan the Mafia Gladio, Sitbam the CIA. The Italian-Iran-Contra Scandal was almost as complex as the american Iran contra and also deeply tied to covert wars all over the planet. In Sweden the assassination of Olof Palme was also Iran contra connected. Above all in the Soviet Union there is a whole story waiting to be uncovered of the destruction of the USSR a story still largely hidden merely because no one has bothered to look for it but all many clues are there. On the more obvious level there was the war in Afghanistan and the massive expansion in military spending under Reagan. There was an expanded economic war. Covertly as the CIA directed a flood of heroin in the USSR it made alliances with all sorts of gangsters, terrorists and corrupt officials. Ironically so called Detente played another major role one of the conditions called for greater freedom for dissidents while at the top levels revisionist soviet officials began meeting with big business a process that indirectly and directly corrupted them and served doubtless as the perfect recruiting ground for the CIA. These are some of the trails to follow that I came across while researching Iran Contra.


I could go on forever or so it seems on Iran-Contra, world war 3, the war on drugs, the birth of Al Qaeda, the fall of the USSR. Even now I've only scratched the surface I have a hundred pages of notes on the topic. As my friend @arrghshell said "Iran/Contra is not just a can of worms it is a wormhole" in other words as I've demonstrated Iran Contra connects with everything from the beginnings of the cold war and even before to the present day where the Contra war continues in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Colombia, DRCongo, and a hundred other places. As Massive as World War 3 was in the Reagan Era involving major covert operations in 50 countries today it is even more massive involving more then 100 140 if I recall correctly. Meanwhile the flow of drugs from these covert wars continues from Afghanistan to Colombia, and Mexico. It was thanks to the Iran Contra era that Al Qaeda was born. The war on Drugs,  the War on Terror continue in all their absurdity despite all the evidence all the books, all the whistleblowers, the hearings showing it is one big lie. On that depressing note let me end this discussion of Iran Contra. I'm tempted to go on and Connecting Iran Contra to GLADIO, The Phoenix Program, Operation Condor, and other covert operations that never seem to end but endlessly carry on their horrors of terrorism, torture, and assassinations. Or to connect Iran contra to watergate, JFK, the shooting of the pope, the Lockerbie bombing, 9/11. However for now I'll leave it there. After all many of my future researches will also connect with the Iran Contra affair. For those seeking to understand America's deep History Iran Contra is the perfect place to start and I have given you more then enough clues to begin your own search into the maze of Iran/Contra connections.

Two more pieces of essential reading on the topic of covert wars are "Instruments of Statecraft" By Michael McClintock a must read. Also "Safe For Democracy: The secret Wars of the CIA" By John Prados is also great.

Doug Valentine wrote the definitive book on the Phoenix Program "The Phoenix Program" I also recommend his novel on the Secret War in Laos "TDY" I wrote an article based on the "Phoenix Program" Valentine also traces the impact of the phoenix program on the dirty war in El Salvador where they didn't even bother to change the name but launched Operation Phoenix

CIA Whistleblower John Stockwell wrote "The Praetorian Guard"  and "In Search of Enemies" "Guard" has good material on Nicaragua and Stockwell was the first to identify "World War 3" as the War on the Third World. "Enemies" is on the War in Angola.

Turning the Tide By Noam Chomsky was an important source despite my many issues with him (I could write an article just on this)
